i>clicker may be used as a simple tool to provide instant, anonymous feedback, or as a tool to promote active learning in the classroom and give students credit for class participation and/or performance.
As of Fall 2011, i>clicker is the centrally supported audience response system on the UMass Amherst campus. Support for the previous clicker system (PRS) has been discontinued.
Update Required for UMass Amherst i>clicker Users
To address a potential security vulnerability, i>clicker has issued an update to the i>clicker software. Please follow the instructions below for updating your i>clicker software to the latest version, v6.4.2.
Note: If you do not currently have i>clicker v6.4.1 (or earlier) installed on your computer, you do not need to take any action. Starting Wednesday, 10/29/14, new downloads of i>clicker from the IT Website are for the updated software, v6.4.2. (Click request i>clicker software under Downloads (right) to get v6.4.2 of i>clicker.)
For questions, or help with this update, contact the Instructional Media Lab (413-545-2823 | email@example.com).

At this time, the best solution for classroom audience response is the i>clicker base station and the i>clicker 2 handheld student remote. Instructors should not use i>Clicker GO, or any other WiFi-based mobile audience response solution (e.g., Top Hat), for on-campus courses.
Currently, there are very few classrooms that have the wireless network capacity to support the performance that instructors and students require for high-stakes active learning with an audience response system. UMass Amherst is asking instructors to not require students to incur the additional cost of purchasing ANY mobile audience response application (i>clicker GO, TopHat, etc.) until the campus wireless network can support mobile audience response in the majority of classrooms.
For more information about using an i>clicker base station with i>clicker 2 handheld student remotes, please contact the Instructional Media Lab (413-545-2823 or firstname.lastname@example.org).
We provide all instructors who choose to utilize i>clicker with a receiver (see image at right), software, and an instructor remote at no cost.
OIT will also be installing receivers in the classrooms where clickers are often used. Please let us know what classroom you will be teaching in each semester.
If you want to use i>clicker in your Spring 2014 course, we encourage you to place your order with the Textbook Annex.
For steps to take prior to using i>clicker in your classroom (even if you have used i>clicker previously), please see Prepare to Use i>clicker.
For information about downloading and using the software, please see our Getting Started with iClicker handout (pdf, 3.2 MB).
Students will register their clickers in a dedicated i>clicker block that you will need to add to your Moodle course. For instructions on how to add the i>clicker block to a Moodle course, please see Add an i>clicker Block in Moodle.
Please see our blog for Best Practices and News.
OIT/Academic Computing provides instructors with workshops and one-on-one consultations on the use of i>clicker. Schedule a consultation by contacting the Instructional Media Lab (413-545-2823 or email email@example.com).
In Fall 2011 the UMass Amherst campus switched from using eInstruction’s PRS clickers to i>clicker. Instructors will be pre-ordering i>clicker remotes through the Textbook Annex. Check the “Class Overview/Textbook” page for you course(s) in SPIRE to see if your instructor(s) will be requiring i>clicker.
Be sure to purchase the correct clicker. The UMass Amherst campus is only supporting the i>clicker model 2, which has an LCD panel (see image at right). The cost for a new i>clicker2 remote will be $45.50 at the Textbook Annex.
To register your i>clicker remote in Moodle, please see Register Your i>clicker Remote in Moodle or our Instructions for Registering Your i>clicker Remote in Moodle handout (pdf 658 K).
Note: Register your i>clicker remote only in Moodle, not at the i>clicker Web site.
