Email Delivery Delays to Non-UMass Email Addresses - Wed., 5/4

Email messages from UMass Amherst email accounts sent to some non-UMass email services continue to be temporarily delayed for up 48 hours. During this interval, members of the university community may receive notifications of undelivered mail.

As a result of some information security issues, external email services are temporarily delaying accepting messages from UMass Amherst. UMass Amherst IT staff is working to resolve these issues, and are closely monitoring our email servers for further issues.

Security Alert! New Phishing Scam Targets UMass Amherst Email Credentials

Members of the UMass Amherst campus community have reported a fraudulent email with the title "Admin Desk Ticket" claiming to be from "System Admin." This message asks the recipient to log in to your UMail on the Web email account through a fraudulent version of the UMass Amherst IT login page. See below for an example of the fraudulent email.

Campus Community IT Security Alert - Phishing

Last night a fake message (phish) was sent to many people that purported to be from Julie Buehler. It had several signs that are common in phishes, including:

1. An attempt to stop the recipient from thinking. This is usually done by seeming to be from a person of authority, instilling a sense of urgency, and appearing legitimate through style and branding.

2. An attempt to gain sensitive information – in this case, it was asking the user to log in with their UMass username and password.
